Did Super Nintendo have the best racing games of the 16 bit era?

When we think about SNES racing games from the 16 bit era some of the titles that come to mind include the original F-Zero, Super Mario Kart and the Top Gear series. When it comes down to in game mechanics, graphics and soundtracks the Super Nintendo had some pretty cool racing titles back in the early 90’s.

One of the features that made titles such as Super Mario Kart and F-Zero standout was Mode 7.  The Mode 7 feature that was utilized in some SNES games were impressive because it provided 2.5D gameplay which made titles like F-Zero seem like they were ahead of their time.  Besides in terms of sales F-Zero had managed to sell close to 3 million units worldwide for the SNES while Super Mario Kart reached over 8 million since its release initial release in 1992.  When it comes down to memorable racing classics of the 16 bit era some of the SNES games seem to stand out more than the Genesis titles from that time period.
