Sometimes its hard to believe that the Legend of Zelda series has been around for over 30 years. Its almost hard to imagine what the gaming world would be like without the Legend of Zelda series which is absolutely one of the greatest when it comes down to the action role playing genre. Since its inception almost every single Legend of Zelda game saw Link as the main protagonist when it came down doing many things including rescuing the Princess or defending the land of Hyrule. One of the mind blowing thing about the Legend of Zelda series includes the fact that person who the series is named after has never been featured in a game where she was a playable character. Despite, Link being a silent protagonist throughout the Legend of Zelda series he is very popular and Nintendo has kept him as the main character for just about every game in the series.
Some might argue that keep Link has the main character of the Legend of Zelda series was smart because the games never declined in quality and only got better over time. When it came down to the storytelling aspect of the Legend of Zelda series Nintendo has always found a way to keep fans emotionally invested into a majority of their games. What is very interesting about the Legend of Zelda series is that in terms of storytelling Nintendo has been able to maintain the same formula of having Link as the main protagonist for over three decades. While Link has remained the hero for just about game in the series many other things about the series changes including the storylines, gameplay, graphics, antagonists, etc. When it comes down to keeping Link as the main protagonist for the Legend of Zelda series Nintendo was smart enough to know not to change something if it was yielding mainstream and commercial success in the gaming world.
However, many people who are fans of Nintendo’s games can argue that Super Mario is very popular and other characters such as Luigi and Princess Peach were eventually given their own respective games over time. While Luigi had his own game during the 00’s for Gamecube many people were aware that Princess Peach had one for the Nintendo DS back in the mid 00’s. The fact that those two characters received a game before Princess Zelda would probably seem puzzling to many people. But if Nintendo did make a game with Princess Zelda as the main protagonist what possible storyline could they involve her in? Also, could Princess Zelda be more popular than Link as the main protagonist in a Nintendo game?
