Since its release many fans and critics have been impressed by Sonic Mania which has been ported for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Even though, having Sonic Mania on home based consoles is a good thing some have wondered why the game was never released for handheld consoles like the PlayStation Vita.
Even though, the PlayStation Vita pales in terms of popularity in comparison to the Nintendo 3DS it would be nice to see the new Sonic title on a portable gaming device other than the hybrid Nintendo Switch console. If Sonic Mania was released for the PlayStation Vita it would definitely sell much less in comparison to the PS4, Xbox One or even the Nintendo Switch.
It’s hard to say right now how well Sonic Mania will do in terms of sales for game consoles such as the Nintendo Switch or the PlayStation 4. Back when Sonic the Hedgehog was released for the 16 bit Sega Genesis consoles in the early 90’s the series ended up becoming one of the regards to platform games during the 90’s. However, the landscape of gaming has changed dramatically since then.
The idea of using 16 bit like graphics for the Sonic Mania is something that would definitely appeal to retro gamers along with modern day gamers who missed out on how exciting 2D platform titles were back then. In terms of popularity the Sonic the Hedgehog series has never been quite the the same as it was back in the 90’s. However, Sonic Mania can play a significant role in revitalizing the series overall since some of the 2D titles are considered to be more popular then some of the more recent 3D games in the series.
When it comes down to games for the Sonic the Hedgehog series most people would probably agree that Sega had produced more memorable 2D titles than 3D, The release of Sonic Mania is something that many people are looking forward to because will it be available on multiple game consoles such as PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch. Along with being available for multiple game consoles Sonic Mania will have that old school Sega Genesis look that made the series popular to begin with.
While the Sonic Advance series from the early 00’s s was possibly the closest thing that we had got to the classic games for the Sega Genesis Sonic Mania almost feels like a sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 3. In fact, some people would probably agree that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 should have looked similar to Sonic Mania in terms of visual display. The use of 16 bit sprites and graphics was something that many people found appealing back in the 90’s and its something that retro gamers still love to see to see to this day.
While the two Sonic Adventure games were fun there were a few 3D games in the series that were well received by fans and critics alike including Sonic Colors along with others that were heavily panned such as Sonic the Hedgehog for the Xbox 360. Usually, when it comes down to 2D Sonic the Hedgehog titles there is rarely ever a bad game in the series that Sega is involved with. Sonic Mania is going to be developed by Headcannon and PagodaWest Games and has of right now it looks very promising because they seem to have a better idea of what fans of the Sonic series are looking for in today’s games.
As of right now many people currently anticipating the release of Sonic Mania which is suppose to be released on various game consoles including the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch. While Sonic Mania is set to be released sometime in the year 2017 many people are excited about the fact that this title highly resembles the Sonic games of the early 90’s. In fact, some people would agree that in terms of visual presentation Sonic Mania is more suited to be an official successor to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 than Sonic 4. Even though, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 featured side scrolling gameplay many would argue that it did not feel the same since Sega had decided to utilized 3D graphics rather than 2D sprites and colorful level designs which added to the appeal of the Sonic titles of the early 90’s.
As far as soundtracks are concerned Sonic the Hedgehog 4 had made a pretty good effort to create soundtracks that one would hear on the old school Mega Drive console. In terms of soundtrack many people enjoyed Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and while the gameplay was pretty good it did not feel quite the same. In fact, some people believe that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 should have been fully 2D like Sonic Mania is suppose to be. Not only does Sonic Mania highly resembles the classic 16 bit games within the series but it provides older fans with a strong sense of nostalgia. As of right now many people are under the impression that Sonic Mania might be better than Sonic the Hedgehog 4 simply because Sega has finally decided to do what many people have been waiting for them to do for many years. The Sonic the Hedgehog series may have had some impressive 3D games during 00’s but some would say that the Sonic the Hedgehog series is best suited for 2D sprites and graphics which is what we will get in Sonic Mania.
