Since its release Injustice 2 has been recognized by numerous publications for being the best fighting game of 2017. Also, those who ever played the original version of Injustice 2 will have a chance to purchase Legendary Edition on March 27th.
As many people have heard Moonlighter is expected to be released some time in March 2018 for the PlayStation 4 along with the Nintendo Switch. Moonlighter has been a game that Digital Sun has wanted to release since 2017 but for whatever reason was eventually pushed back to this month. Ever since, the KickStarter campaign for this game first started the game has received approximately 5,229 backers along with raising over $134,000 for the project.
The fact that over $134,000 donated for the development of Moonlighter is impressive especially considering the fact that the pledged goal for the game was $40,000. Digital Sun games had managed to triple their desired goal and eventually went on to make this top down action-RPG. Moonlighter looks like it has the potential to be one of the most popular 2D RPG titles of the year along with being a game that many people would want to own for the PS4 and the Nintendo Switch.
There is no doubt that the Final Fantasy VII Remake is one of the most anticipated games of 2018. The development of the Final Fantasy VII Remake goes all the back to 2014 and its a game that many people have wanted to see for over a decade.
In terms if whether or not Final Fantasy VII: Remake is going to sell more than Final Fantasy XV is something that is hard to predict at this time. But considering the fact that Final Fantasy VII is generally placed on the same level as Kingdom Hearts III in terms IV popularity involving upcoming RPG’s of 2018; there is a good chance that it might actually surpass FF XV in terms of sales.
After all when it comes down to Final Fantasy VII in general we are talking about the best selling RPG title for the PS1. In fact Final Fantasy VII was probably one the best selling RPG titles of the 90’s in general. Not to take anything away from Final Fantasy XV which was praised by fans and critics alike following its release back in November 2016.
Not to long ago it was reported that Final Fantasy XV as sold at least 6.5 million units worldwide and is seen by some as one of the most popular RPG titles of the 10’s decade. It will be interesting to see how well Final Fantasy VII does in terms of sales during 2018-2019 and whether or not it will be able to reach similar numbers to that of Final Fantasy XV.
When it comes down to RPG titles of the mid to late 90’s Final Fantasy VIII and Chrono Cross are both considered to be underrated titles for the PS1. While Final Fantasy VIII may not have been quite as popular as its prequel Final Fantasy VII its still considered to be a solid RPG by many critics which makes them wonder whether or not the game will ever receive an HD remake. Its no secret that Square Enix plans on releasing an HD remake of Final Fantasy VII sometime in 2018. As far as Chrono Cross is concerned not only have we seen a direct sequel from Chrono Cross which was actually critically acclaimed but there has never really been any talk on making an HD version of Chrono Cross at all.
Similar to Final Fantasy VIII, Chrono Cross was not quite as popular as its prequel Chrono Trigger which was released for the SNES back in 1995. In terms of popularity some would probably give the slight edge to Final Fantasy VIII over Chrono Cross considering the fact that the FF series still continues to this day. While many people have wanted to see a sequel to see a direct Chrono Cross since the early 00’s the chances of it actually happening are very slim since the overall sales of the game fell below certain expectations. If Square Enix were had to choose one out of the two games to make an HD remake for it would most likely be Final Fantasy VIII.
When it comes down to RPG title there are so many cool games that everyone is looking forward to in 2018. One of the many titles that will appear on multiple game consoles later this year is Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire which is developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published Verses Evil. The initial release of the game will take place in April 2018 for Microsoft Windows.
Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is also expected to appear on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One In late 2018. One of the more interesting things about Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is the isometric perspective which is something that we don’t see in too many RPG titles today. Ever since the fundraising campaign started for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire back in January 2017 over $4.4 million was made in a short period of time which was very impressive. There is no doubt that Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is going to be one of the most popular RPG titles of 2018.
As many people have heard Marvel vs Capcom Infinite has been dropped from this year’s Capcom Pro Tour. Originally Marvel vs Capcom Infinite was expected to be apart of the Capcom Pro Tour along with Street Fighter V. In terms on why Marvel be Capcom Infinite was excluded from the Capcom Pro Tour is questionable especially since its one of the biggest fighting games that Capcom had back in 2017.
But then again Marvel vs Capcom Infinite was also a game that wasn’t chosen to played in the 2018 Evo event. Some believe that Marvel vs Capcom Infinite not being apart of this year Evo event is due to the popularity of Dragonball FighterZ which is a fighting title that features three on three battles opposed to the two on two gameplay which Marvel vs Capcom Infinite has. While Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is a solid crossover fighting title it may have fell below the expectations of some people. But then again, Marvel vs Capcom 3 was a hard game to try and top in the first place.
There is no doubt that the original Secret of Mana title which was released for the SNES back in the early 90’s is legendary in the RPG genre of gaming. Ever since the 2D version of the Secret of Mana was released back in the summer of 1993 it managed to exceed over one million units in sales and has been a game that many people have wanted to see a 3D version of for a very long time.
Some would say that a 3D remake involving the Secret of Mana is something that is at least 20 years in the making. The Secret of Mana 3D Remake will have some pretty cool new features such as voiced characters along with arranged music which are among several things that will draw the interest of many people. The 3D version of the Secret of Mana is set to be released for the PS4, PC and the PlayStation Vita on February 15th and from the looks of things seems like it could be one of the best remakes that we will see on 2018.
