There is no question that Dragonball FighterZ was one of the most popular games of 2018. Since its release it ended reaching over 3.5 million copies worldwide in relation to sales and is still a huge attraction in retail right now for various game consoles such as the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch. Along with having its own World Tour involving various countries around the world Dragonball FighterZ has attracted a ton of mainstream attention along with the fact that Dragonball Super is becoming very popular as an anime on networks such as Toonami. Speaking of which it has recently been revealed that one of the most popular characters and Dragonball Super known as Jiren will be included in FighterZ as s DLC character.
For those who do not know Jiren is a member of the Pride Troopers who shows up during the Tournament of Power in Dragonball S while trying to track down the Super Dragon Balls. As far as details are concerned it has been said that more information will be revealed about Jiren on January 26th-27th at the upcoming Dragonball FighterZ world tournament event. It will be interesting to see what additional characters will be added to Dragonball FighterZ as we progress throughout 2019.
There are so many big games that are expected to appear on various different game consoles as we progress throughout the year and one of the many titles that has recently been announced for an upcoming release is Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid. This upcoming game will be made by the same developers known as nWay who worked on Power Rangers Legacy Wars which came out back in 2017 and will feature heroes and villains throughout the entire series dating back to the early 90’s when Mighty Morphin Power Rangers had become extremely popular. It should be noted that nWay will be collaborating with Hasbro and Lionsgate for the creation of Power Rangers: Battle of the Grid and that the game is expected to appear on multiple game consoles this upcoming April.
Those who have been longtime fans of the Power Rangers series since the early 90’s who currently owns a PlayStation 4, Xbox One or a Nintendo Switch will be able to enjoy this upcoming fighting game especially since cross-platform gameplay will allowed. Power Rangers: Battle of the Grid will be priced at $19.99 while the special collectors addition with the inclusion of extra skins will be priced at $39.99. It will be interesting to see whether or not Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid will become more popular than the MP: Legacy Wars game that came out back in 2017.
For those who are fans of the Sword Art Online video game series since 2013 you will be happy to know Hollow Realization will finally be released in western countries this upcoming Spring. For those who do not know we got to eventually see a worldwide release of the game for the PlayStation Vita following its availability in retail back in 2016. While we do know that Sword Art Online Hollow Realization will be appearing this upcoming Spring an exact release date has yet to be confirmed by Bandi Namco Entertainment.
There is no question that as an RPG title a game like Sword Art Online Hollow Realization will stand out on the Nintendo Switch quite possibly more than the PS4. It will be interesting to see how popular Sword Art Online becomes on the Nintendo Switch in North America especially since we do not have too many solid RPG titles on that console right now.
As many people know in relation to video games it seems like streaming is starting to become more popular as time progresses. There has been speculation about the Xbox One X being Microsoft’s last game system along with hints of Nintendo moving away from console in order to emphasize streaming services as mentioned by the company’s President Shuntaro Furukawa earlier this month in an interview. While game consoles are still very exciting to have mobile gaming on devices such as IPhones and IPads have definitely become very popular throughout the 10’s decade and looks like a trend that will continue throughout the 2020’s decade as well. To say that game consoles will become obsolete altogether before 2030 is a bold statement especially since Sony is coming out with the PlayStation 5 very soon which will last throughout a majority of the 2020’s decade.
As likely as it may seem there is a possibility that the console wars between Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo can potentially continue past 2030. However, the year 2030 is about eleven years from now and its possible that anything could happen from companies no longer producing consoles to making game systems which will not require physical CD’s or cartridges in favor of streaming.
As many people know Mario Kart 7 was a game that was released exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS back in 2011. Since its release Mario Kart 7 has been seen as one of the best games within its series and actually did surprisingly well in relation to sales. In fact Mario Kart 7 was the best selling game for the Nintendo 3DS and has managed to sell over 17 million copies worldwide since its release towards the start of the decade. If you walk in some stores line Best Buy you will see that the game is still available in retail which actually surprising to many pet especially considering the fact that the Nintendo 3DS is starting to lose its value due to the popularity of the Nintendo Switch.
While Mario Kart 7 was not quite as big as its 2014 successor Mario Kart 8 in relation to mainstream popularity its still considered to be one of the best racing games that Nintendo has made that was never released on a home based console. For those who have not played Mario Kart 7 the game is worth checking out and would be somewhat of an attraction in the year 2019.
As far as upcoming video games are con in relation to this year are concerned there are so many cool games that people around the world are looking forward to seeing on various different game consoles. In relation to the Nintendo Switch one of the few titles that is expected to appear in the near future is a 2D side-scrolling game developed by Inti Creates known as Dragon: Marked for Death. As many people know the PS1 Classic has not achieved the same level of success following its release in December 2018 that the SNES Classic did following its release back in September 2017. There are many people in the gaming world who say that the lack of success that the PS1 Classic has so far is due to the selection of retro games used in the collection. While the titles such as Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil, Twisted Metal, Tekken 3 and others are featured in the PS1 Classic games like Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot were absent which was something that many people were bummed out. Also, the 3D graphics of the PS1 Classic are far less superior than what we have today for the PlayStation 4 and it would have made more sense for Sony to make HD remakes of each game instead.
However, the fact that we even got to see a PS1 Classic at all is something that is really cool and would make a great collectors item for those who are huge fans of retro gaming in general. The PS1 Classic serves its purpose in relation to nostalgia in bringing people back to the mid 90’s with 20 different 32-bit titles that are hard to find in used game stores in this day and age and that something that would be enough to make gamers want to purchase Sony’s retro based console.
