As many people already know Wolfenstein: Youngblood is set to appear on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch this upcoming summer on July 26th. While Wolfenstein: Youngblood is quite possibly one of the most anticipated first-person shooter games of 2019 and we have recently just learned that it will not be receiving a physical release for the Nintendo Switch. Wolfenstein: Youngblood has been confirmed for a digital only release for the Switch console which is something that is actually more convenient for owners of the hybrid console in the long run. Also, its a well known fact that third-party games are not as popular for the Switch console as games such as Super Mario Odessey, Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and others.
In fact, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Wolfenstein: Youngblood are probably going to sell more than the Switch port of the game. Either way, Wolfenstein: Youngblood will definitely be a success following its upcoming release and the fact that we are even getting a Switch port of the first-person shooter game is cool considering the fact that we do not have too many titles of the genre on that console.
As far as upcoming games are concerned in relation to 2019 the announcement regarding the release of R-Type Final 2 is something that caught many people by surprise a few days ago. Initially, the announcement of R-Type Final 2 was seen as an April Fools joke that had many people skeptical on whether or not is was really going to happen. In fact, we have not seen a major R-Type installment since the 2000’s when R-Type Final 1 was released for the PlayStation 2 back in ’03. But then again we did get to see R-Type Tactics for the PSP back in ’07. Also, we got to see R-Type Dimensions which was released for consoles such as the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 back in ’09. By the early 00’s the R-Type series had already declined in popularity seeing that 2D side scrolling shoot em up genre of gaming had started to slowly go downhill following early 90’s.
Despite, the decline of the side scrolling shoot em up genre for over the past decade R-Type Final 2 will definitely be an attraction to retro gamers who have been fans of the R-Type series since the late 80’s. R-Type Final 2 is a title that is at least fifteen years in the making; with stunning 2.5D visuals and gameplay it has the potential to be the most popular shoot em up game of 2019-2020. Based on what we know a crowdfunding campaign for R-Type Final 2 is expected to begin in May 2019 and the development for the game will be lead by Granzella. Along with the resurrection of the Streets of Rage series with upcoming release of SOR 4 it looks like R-Type series could also be revived as well depending how successful Final 2 becomes in the future.
As far as popular games in the month of March is concerned there is no question that Devil May Cry 5 has been on a huge role in relation to success. Since its initial release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows back on March 8th Devil May Cry 5 has managed to reach over 2 million units worldwide in sales in less than a month which is very impressive. The gameplay, storyline and visuals for Devil May Cry 5 is to die for and is already considered to be one of the best action-adventure games of 2019. Devil May Cry 5 is the first main entry within the series that Capcom has produced since 2008 and there are fans & critics who believe that its a better game that DMC 4.
Seeing how popular Devil May Cry 5 has been thus far many people are speculating how much the game will sell before the end of 2019. Devil May Cry 4 was a game that managed reach approximately 3 million units worldwide in sales by 2014. As it currently stands Devil May Cry 5 will definitely surpass its predecessor in sales and will most likely sold more than double of what DmC 4 did before the end of 2019.
There are so many games that people are looking forward to seeing on multiple game systems as we progress throughout this year. When it comes to action role-playing puzzle games of 2019 one of the few titles that has everyone talking is Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince developed by Frozenbyte Inc and published by Modus Games which is set to appear on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows along with the Nintendo Switch this upcoming Fall. For those who do not know Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince will be the direct sequel to Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power which was released back in August 2015 and is considered to be the fourth major installment within series since it began a decade ago in 2009. It should be noted that has far as gameplay is concerned Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince will not be fully 3D like it’s predecessor and will revert back to a 2.5 dimensional perspective.
Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince will have multiple characters that players can choose from including a thief named Zoya a knight named Pontius along with a wizard named Amadeus as they solve various puzzles throughout the entire game. As it currently stands there is no official release date for Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince but there is no question that the game will definitely be a attraction big attraction in Fall 2019.
There are so many exciting titles that the world is looking forward to seeing this year for various different game consoles. In relation to indie games one of the few titles that some are talking about is an action role-playing game developed Jo-Mei Games and published by Electronic Arts entitled Sea of Solitude. This game will be utilizing the Unity game engine and is expected to appear on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at a date that has yet to be revealed. Sea of Solitude has an interesting plot where the setting takes place in a fictional city based on Berlin, Germany.
The story Sea of Solitude focuses on the main character named Kay who ends up turning into a monster because of isolation and loneliness. It’s up to the player to discover the exact reasons why Kay has become a monster making for an interesting action role-playing that people can sink their teeth’s into. While Sea of Solitude was announced for a release in early 2019 it’s unclear when it will be released and what the exact price will be. For those who are fans of indie based Action-RPG’s Sea of Solitude is a title worth checking out.
When we think about popular RPG titles that has appeared on the PlayStation 4 within the past three years there are many titles that instantly comes to mind. However, Persona 5 along with Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue are two titles that comes to mind in relation to being deserving of a port for the Nintendo Switch. As of late Square Enix has been more open than ever in doing business with Nintendo especially considering the fact that Final Fantasy 7, 10, 12 and Crystal Chronicles will be appearing on the Switch this year. The idea Square Enix bringing any of the Kingdom Hearts titles to the Switch console included Kingdom Hearts III which recently came out would be something that many people would not mind seeing. But to be quite honest in terms of popularity many would probably give Persona 5 the slight edge over the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue in general.
While having a collection of Kingdom Hearts games on the Nintendo Switch would be a dream come to fans of the series who are also Switch owners Persona 5 was a title that was considered to be one of the best games to have come out of 2017 period. Persona 5 was praised for its gameplay, art direction and storytelling along with being a more recent video game opposed to a collection of older games within its series. While everyone may have different opinions on which game is more deserving of a Switch port it seems like neither one of the will ever appear on the hybrid console in the near future.

For those who are huge fans of rouge-lite indie platform games you will be happy to know that the highly anticipated Spelunky 2 game will be appearing in Steam sometime in the near future. The fact, that Spelunky 2 going to be released sometime this year is very exciting news especially since the prequel for this game came out over a decade ago in 2008. The PlayStation 3 remake of the original Spelunky game came out in 2013 and has been critically acclaimed since its release before appearing on the PS4 the following year in 2014.
It should be noted the Mossmouth, LLC the developer for the original Spelunky title will be working alongside with BlitWorks to release Spelunky 2 for PC later this year at a date yet to be revealed. The trailer that was revealed for Spelunky 2 this past year looked impressive as the setting for the game takes places following the events of the original title which came out in ’08. Also, one of the biggest changes to Spelunky 2 is the fact that the levels within the game will include second layers which will allow players to travel back and fourth throughout each stage. Along with improved visuals the gameplay for Spelunky 2 is something that will attract those who were fans of the first game once its finally appears on Steam.
