Does future of Activision-Blizzard look bleak?

As many people may have already heard by now there are some major changes coming along the way in relation to popular video game publisher Activision-Blizzard. It has been recently announced that the company plans on slashing hundreds of jobs within the company due to massive layoffs. It has been reported by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier that the job cuts would be mainly in non-developmental departments such as sales, marketing and publishing. It should also be noted that Activision-Blizzard has also parted ways with popular video game developer Bungie that worked on games such as Halo I-III back in the 00’s and more recently Destiny 1 & 2 during the 10’s decade. Losing a developer like Bungie is very tough and will force Activision-Blizzard to do all that they can to increase the amount of annual revenue they earn.

The split between Activision-Blizzard and Bungie along with losing the Destiny IP is expected to detract somewhere between $300-$400 million from the publisher’s annual revenue. Aside from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 being a huge success and arguably the most popular shooter game of 2018 the future for Activision-Blizzard seems uncertain at the moment. The company’s share has reportedly dropped at least 2.5% within this past week which has many people thinking whether or not Activision-Blizzard will be able to find additional ways to compensate for their revenue shortage as we progress throughout 2019.
