As many of us know Mario has been around since the 80’s. Since the NES days of gaming Mario has generally had video games in mainly within the platform genre. However, we have seen Mario in various types of games dealing with different genres such as sports, fighting and even party. In this day and age first and third person shooter games are very popular and it has seeming been this way since the 00’s. Looking back at the 00’s and early 10’s it seems like Nintendo has never really done anything with the Mario series in relation to shooter genre of gaming.
As we are all aware Nintendo is supposed to more family friendly in comparison to Microsoft and Sony. Depending who you are the Mario series seemed like its always been family friendly. However, there have been countless jokes on the internet about Mario not being family friendly as he appears to kill off countless enemies such as Goombas and Koopa Troopers while insinuating that he is a psycho. In this case some wonder whether or not Nintendo could ever pull off a Super Mario shooter game in this day and age. Seeing how Nintendo are generally considered to be creative geniuses who constantly finds ways to reinvent themselves in relation to gaming its possible that they could find a way to pull off a family friendly Super Mario shooter game just to try something new. If we got a Mario shooter game that was family friendly and similar to a game such as Splatoon 2 then it could possibly work on the Nintendo Switch
When it comes down to shooter games on the original Xbox console that deserved a remake for the Xbox 360 Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict was one of the few games that some believe actually deserved it. There were so many things about this game that was enjoyable including the single player modes in featured in Unreal Championship 2. If you were playing this game alone you had the opportunity to engage in story, tournament or challenge mode. Also, the multiplayer game modes such as death match and capture the flag was great because it added to the overall replay value of the Unreal Championship 2 if you owned it.
In terms of visuals and graphics Unreal Championship 2 looked pretty cool on the original Xbox console. Looking back at things now its questionable why Unreal Championship 2 was never remade for the Xbox 360 back in the 00’s. While its true that we got to see the release of Unreal Tournament 3 for the Xbox 360 in 2007 Unreal Championship 2 still should have been released for some type of next generation console. Some could argue that Unreal Tournament 3 could have overshadowed Unreal Champion 2 during the late 00’s but in the early 10’s an HD remake could have definitely worked for the Xbox One.
Back in the early 00’s there were so many people who were excited to see the Outrun series make a return for game consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation 2. However, for some reason we never got to see a GameCube port of Outrun 2 back in the early 00’s which raises the question why it never happened. When it comes down to racing games Outrun 2 could have definitely been a success on the Nintendo GameCube especially since there weren’t too many big racing titles that it would have to contend with. As far as racing titles were concerned two big games for the Nintendo GameCube that instantly comes to mind are Mario Kart Double Dash and F-Zero GX.
Outrun 2 may not have been quite as popular as Mario Kart Double Dash but it definitely could have got more attention than F-Zero GX on the Nintendo GameCube. While some could argue that Outrun 2 could have easily been overshadowed by Mario Kart Double Dash on the Nintendo GameCube the same could be said about the this game in comparison to titles such as Gran Turismo 3 on the PlayStation 2 or Midnight Club or Project Gotham Racing for Xbox during the early 00’s.
As of right now there aren’t too many things we know about Metroid Prime 4 other than the fact that the game is expected to be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch most likely in 2018. In terms of which game engine that we are most likely to see for Metroid Prime 4 is something that has been debated in numerous gaming chat sites for a while now. When it comes down possibly game engines for Metroid Prime 4 a popular name that comes up is the Unreal Engine 4. Seeing a Metroid game on the Unreal Engine would be pretty cool for the Nintendo Switch.
However, there is always that possibility that Nintendo might give Metroid Prime 4 its own custom game engine similar to that of Super Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2 which also came out for the Switch console this year. While utilizing the Unreal Engine for the upcoming Metroid game would be great its possible that Nintendo has other plans in terms of which game engine they plan on using.
Sometimes its hard to believe that been a decade since Unreal Tournament 3 was released. Back in 2007, Unreal Tournament 3 was probably one of the hottest first person shooter games of the late 00’s following its release for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. Since the release of Unreal Tournament 3 many people have wondered whether or not Epic Games has any plans on bring back the first person shooter series on game consoles sometime in the future. After all, the first person shooter genre seems just as popular as it was back in the late 00’s. However, when it comes down to an actual sequel to Unreal Tournament 3 the closest thing that we got was the pre alpha release of the 2014 Unreal Tournament game.
The Unreal Tournament game released back in 2014 was available for Microsoft Windows but there was never a console version of the game. As of now there hasn’t really been any talk from Epic Games about a potential Unreal Tournament game for the Xbox One. However, if Epic Games ever decides to bring back the Unreal Tournament series for either the Xbox One or the PS4 it would definitely be something that would turn heads in the gaming world.
There are so many good things about Gran Turismo Sport as a racing title that would easily make it the best game within its genre for the year 2017. Almost everything from the visuals to the gameplay all the way down to the sound effects makes Gran Turismo Sport a great racing game for the PlayStation 4. One of the few things that many people have questioned about Gran Turismo Sport includes the quantity of cars included in the game. When we look at Gran Turismo 6 which was released back in December 2013 the game had approximately 1200 cars that players could choose from. Also, other racing games such as Forza Motorsport 7 reportedly has over 700 cars that players could choose from.
While having over 170 cars in Gran Turismo Sport seems like a step a bit of a drawback from what can be considered a solid racing game there are some who believe the overall quality of the game compensates for this feature. After all, Gran Turismo Sport has already managed to sell over one million units worldwide since its release back in October 2017. Also, there is always a possibility that Polyphony Digital will add more cars as downloadable content in 2018.
When it comes down to popularity Grand Theft Auto V is arguably the best action adventure shooter titles of the 10’s. Grand Theft Auto V has managed to sell millions worldwide since it was released on multiple game consoles such as the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. While the Grand Theft Auto series have never really been featured on any Nintendo based consoles the idea of Grand Theft Auto V being ported for the Nintendo Switch seems unlikely. In theory having Grand Theft Auto V for the Nintendo Switch sounds great especially considering how popular the game system is right now.
However, in practice having Grand Theft Auto V on Nintendo Switch is questionable. When it comes down to the actual quality of Grand Theft Auto V the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine that we have mainly seen on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. There are hardly any Nintendo based consoles that utilize the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine and it also questionable if the Nintendo Switch could handle it or not. Also, since Grand Theft Auto V has been out since the Fall of 2013 its uncertain on how the game would do in terms of sales for the hybrid console in general.
