Super Mario RPG is probably one of the few games from the 90’s that man people have been dying to see a remake for. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was probably the best role playing game ever in the series. The visuals for this game looked great the SNES back in the mid 90’s. Also, the collaboration between Nintendo and Square Enix for Super Mario RPG was something special because the gameplay looked and felt very different opposed to regular Mario games.
Even though, many people consider Super Mario RPG to be one of the best games ever made for the SNES some would argue that it was overshadowed by the Nintendo 64 back in 1996. When Super Mario RPG was released back in 1996 the world also got to witness games such Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 that same year. Despite, being somewhat overshadowed by the N64 Super Mario RPG still had managed to sell over 2 million units worldwide since its release for the SNES back in 1996.
As good as this game was back in the 90’s we never got a true sequel or a remake for Super Mario RPG. The fallout between Nintendo and Square Enix is something that many people in the gaming world is aware of and it’s probably why we never got a remake of this 16 bit RPG classic. Without a doubt Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars deserves an HD remake but many will argue that it’s very unlikely to happen.
