Shadow the Hedgehog was probably one of the coolest characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog series in recent memory. As a villain Shadow the Hedgehog looked like he could pose more of a threat to Sonic the Hedgehog than Dr. Eggman could. After making his debut in Sonic Adventure 2 Shadow the Hedgehog was one of the most popular characters in the entire series. However, after Sonic Adventure 2 Sega had decided to give Shadow the Hedgehog his own game for consoles such as Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo during the mid 00’s
While Shadow the Hedgehog looked pretty cool in theory the game was heavily criticized by fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. While Shadow the Hedgehog was known to have a villain tough guy persona some might argue that Sega took it a little too far by giving him a motorcycle and gun. Shadow the Hedgehog was already cool enough without a weapon or a vehicle. If anything giving any of those things took away from his character. Even though, the developers tried to make Shadow the Hedgehog look cooler than he already was they should have just left as a dark version of Sonic the Hedgehog with no gimmicks attached. Despite. Sega trying to make Shadow look seem like an over the top tough guy the storyline for the game was pretty interesting.
In this game players had the option of choosing their own fate as Shadow the Hedgehog. Whoever Shadow aligns himself with whether its with Eggman, Black Doom or Sonic and his friends players got to see multiple endings due to the branching storylinesin the game. Along with choosing who he aligns himself with Shadow the Hedgehog also has the ability to follow his own path in order to gather all of the Chaos Emeralds for himself. While Shadow the Hedgehog was good enough as a action adventure platform title there was really no need for it to be a third person shooter title. Even though, Sega wanted to try something new with Sonic games many would agree that it should not have been at the expense one of the hottest characters in series during the early 00’s.
